How Does the Gratuity-Style Commission Work?
At closing, you will fill out a short 10 question survey, rating your level of satisfaction in 10 different areas, such as communication promptness, negotiating ability, and pricing expertise.
In each of the 10 areas, you will rate us on a scale of 0 to 10 (0 is lowest, 10 is highest). The answers are then added together, resulting in one overall satisfaction score, with 100 being the highest possible score and 0 being the lowest possible score.
The listing commission amount you pay is our standard listing-side commission rate (4%) multiplied by your overall satisfaction score.
For example, if your home sells for $200,000, then our standard listing-side commission of 4% is $8,000. Here is how different overall satisfaction scores affect the listing-side commission amount...
100% score: 100% x $8,000 = $8,000
97% score: 97% x $8,000 = $7,760
90% score: 90% x $8,000 = $7,200
50% score: 50% x $8,000 = $4,000
10% score: 10% x $8,000 = $800
0% score: 0% x $8,000 = $0 (zero)

Originally from Orlando, John has lived in the valley since 2002. Before falling in love with real estate, he was a software developer and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering from Auburn University. John has one daughter and one son.
In 2009, John was selected by Realtor Magazine as one of their “30 Under 30”. The National Association of Realtors handpicks 30 agents for this award each year out of the 65,000 Realtors nationwide under the age of 30.

With roots stretching into Mississippi, Laurelyn has spent most of her life here in the valley. Before earning her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Athens State University, she gained 4 years of experience with marketing in the music industry, and another 4 years acquiring valuable skills in computer technology as a software tester. Laurelyn has one daughter, and her hobbies include playing the guitar and piano.

As a Huntsville native and a daughter of well-known custom homebuilder, Steve Stricklin of Stricklin Custom Homes, Shelby feels she's been in the industry “her entire life”.
She officially began her career in 2005 and spent a few years specializing in on-site sales and commercial real estate. She then joined John’s team in 2013 as a Buyer Specialist and quickly formed a team of top agents to assist her. In the fall of 2015, John asked her to become his Listing Partner and Director of Sales, and she knew she’d really found her niche.

In addition, he has owned and operated Windham Entertainment, Inc for the past 10 years, alongside his wife Marianne, who is a prominent business leader and volunteer in the non-profit and arts communities. You may also recognize Darin from his onstage appearances where he often serves as emcee for several organizations, as well as performing in local musical theatrical productions.
